Equipment

Requirements

To train with this squad, swimmers are required to:

  • Satisfy the head coach that you are suitable
  • Attend 4+ sessions per week
  • Be commitment to the sport
  • Have achieved Victorian state qualifying times in two or more events*
  • Be a member of M1 Swimming Club and participate at nominated swim meets
  • Be approximately 14+ years of age

* Swimmers within close proximity of qualifying may be considered

Time Standards

Swimmers are required to have achieved the following standards according to Swimming Australia's Junior Excellence Program:

  • 16yrs & under: Bronze or above

Training times

Swimmers may attend any of the following sessions each week:

Mon 4.30-5.00pm (dryland @ MARC studio) / 5.00-6.30pm (swim)
Tue 4.30-5.30pm (dryland @ Topfitness*) / 5.45-7.00pm (swim) 
Wed 5.45-7.15am
Wed 5.00-6.30pm
Thu 4.30-5.30pm (dryland @ Topfitness*) / 5.45-7.00pm (swim)
Fri 5.45-7.15am

* Topfitness Gym is located at 3 Aristoc Rd, Glen Waverley (approx. 5 minute walk from pool)

Please refer to our latest training calendar for a detailed schedule for the current quarter. During the summer school holidays, classes are held as per the summer holiday schedule.

Training dates

Training takes place 48 weeks per year with a one week training break in each school holiday. 

Performance Goals

Swimmers should aim to:

  • Achieve Silver or Gold standard in the Swimming Australia Junior Excellence Program (applicable for 16 & under swimmers)
  • Compete in all three state championship meets: Short Course, Long Course and Sprints
  • Advanced swimmers should aim to achieve a National qualifying time in 1 or more event

Swim meets

Coaches will nominate approximately 12 swim meets over the course of the season which swimmers will be encouraged to enter.  These meets will be listed under 'M1 Black' on the M1 Swimming Club website.  

The following meets are considered priority meets for State Squad:

Short Course Season

  • Victorian Age/Open Short Course Championships

Long Course Season

  • Victorian Age/Open Championships
  • Victorian Sprint Meet

Pathways

Swimmers typically progress into the State Squad from Sprinters or Open.
